Mailbox provides line of communication to Santa

The Grinch Mailbox has been shut down for the season. The Grinch received 180 letters this year. The box, made by students in the Warren County Career Center’s Building Construction Occupations program will re-open in November.

It’s almost Christmas and the Grinch’s mailbox is closed for the season.

He has more nefarious things to worry about than the mail — like interfering with the Letters to Santa Mailbox — which remains available.

Those needing to send a last-minute letter to Santa may do so at the Letters to Santa Mailbox positioned at the Warren County Chamber of Business and Industry, 308 Market St., Warren.

Those looking to get in touch with the Grinch will have to wait.

“The Grinch received over 180 letters this year and is highly unimpressed that we’ve impeded on his destructive shenanigans by asking him to respond,” Erika Wagner of the Colibri Group said.

Mrs. Claus and Santa keep an eye on the Letters to Santa Mailbox at the Warren County Chamber of Business and Industry while the Grinch keeps an eye on them. The mailbox will remain open and postage-free through Dec. 20.

Those who mail the Grinch have different motivations.

“He’s received letters from both kids and adults,” Wagner said. “Letters have ranged from asking him not to steal Christmas, to asking to join him in his destruction. He’s working on responding to them all currently.”

A mailbox specially for Grinch mail was available outside McKissock on Liberty Street for a few weeks. But, the Grinch took it away, like he does with most Christmas-related things.

The Grinch’s mailbox will be available again in November and will remain out until the Christmas Walk and Parade – at which time the Grinch is expected to return to town and steal it.

Both the Grinch Mailbox and the Letters to Santa Mailbox were constructed by students in the Warren County Career Center Building Construction Occupations program.

“We’ve worked with them for the last two years on projects for our Whoville event,” Wagner said. “Last year they contributed our Toy Shop, Welcome Sign, and some trees. This year they built the mailbox and the Whoville Post Office.”

Santa’s mailbox is available until Tuesday, Dec. 20, according to Savannah Casey of WCCBI.

No postage is required to get letters to the North Pole and Santa will respond personally.

Starting at $3.50/week.
