Free books part of this Friday’s Christmas Walk

Opportunities to expand literacy can often be left to pass by.

To that end, Free Books for Kids Town will be providing children a free book of their choice at Art Kelsey Park on Liberty St. during Friday’s Christmas Walk.

Ruby Wiles, founder of Free Books, said McKissock Learning is sponsoring this element of the initiative.

“We are so pleased that McKissock Learning is continuing an incredible tradition begun by Blair 10 years ago,” Wiles said. “Dan Blair was one of the first people in Warren to support our literacy efforts. We are so grateful to him for beginning this generous tradition and now for McKissock continuing it for its third year. “

The selection that will be available will cover the little ones as well as older children.

“We look forward to sharing the joy of reading and the love of learning for our 11th anniversary,” Wiles said. “The Christmas Walk has a special place in our history as Free Books officially began with the Christmas Walk in 2011.”

Kids Town Books, an offshoot of Free Books for Kids Town, is located in Warren Antique on Second Ave.

Wiles said there will be live Christmas Music there after the parade as well as sales including 20 percent on Christmas books, 10 percent on non-Christmas books and 10 percent off Christmas music. The sale will go through Sunday.

“All proceeds from the store support Free Books for Kids Town literacy and education mission in Warren County,” Wiles said.
