Sheffield man held on sex assault charges

Eight of 12 charges brought against a Sheffield man in a sexual assault case will move ahead in the wake of a Wednesday preliminary hearing.

Jason J. Rager, 40, was held for court on a total of eight charges – two counts of aggravated indecent assault, two counts of indecent assault, two counts of unlawful contact with a minor and two counts of corruption of minors.

As a result of Wednesday’s preliminary hearing, charges of indecent assault, unlawful contact with a minor, corruption of minors and aggravated indecent assault were withdrawn.

According to the affidavit of probable cause, Rager had sexual contact with three minor victims in 2021.

According to the affidavit, the alleged contact took place several times between January and August.

His next court date is formal arraignment set for Dec. 8 at 9:30 a.m.
