Youngsville looks to boost web presence

Youngsville Borough is looking to update its web presence.

At Monday’s meeting of borough council, members peppered Barbara Young of Youngsville Heart and Soul with questions about what she could do with the borough website.

She said the website could go from being based on a template with a few pages to being a blank slate with up to 100 pages.

“You can use your imagination to build what you want,” Young said. “Have pages for different areas within the borough. It’s much more user friendly and easier to access the different agencies.”

She offered to create the pages at $20 per hour for her time. The cost of the hosting would be deferred. Heart and Soul has a contract through March that the borough would share.

Asked if that would put the borough second fiddle to Heart and Soul, Young said she would switch the domain name from Heart and Soul’s to the borough’s.

“Nothing will happen to the Youngsville Borough website,” Mayor Scott Nelson summarized. “Except that it can get better.”

Young assured council members that payments could be made through the new site with a fee – paid by the customer, not the borough – for credit card transactions.

The council was interested and asked Young to bring a formal proposal.

Nelson commented on the Warren Area High School football game that was held at Mike Shine Field in Youngsville while War Memorial Field was under renovation.

“Football in Youngsville was awesome,” he said. “The town was bustling. The lights were on.”

Youngsville High School has not had its own football team since the end of the 2016 season. YHS students interested in playing football have the opportunity to play on the WAHS team which plays its games in Warren.

Nelson said he will look into what can be done to make holding a WAHS football game in Youngsville a regular event.

“I hope to be able to have a conversation with the school board and have that at least one time every year,” he said.

He also congratulated, and issued an invitation to, members of the Youngsville Marching Eagles who were in attendance. The band has earned two first-place finishes and one second place in its first three competitions of the season.

“Congratulations to the band,” Nelson said. “If you would ever want to come to perform here, we would love to have you.”

WINTER PREPARATIONS

Department of Public Works Foreman Mark Theuret announced that the borough will begin annual leaf pickups on Monday and has stocked salt and anti-skid for the winter season.

The department will also begin cold-patching trouble spots in the borough’s streets “late this week or early next week,” Theuret said.

Starting at $4.00/week.
