War Memorial Field nearing completion

The work at War Memorial Field is at the home stretch… the bright blue home stretch.

A crew from Beynon Sports of Syracuse, N.Y., was spraying a traction coat onto the track surface Monday.

Part of the crew stationed near the gate behind the home stands mixed the bright blue polyurethane with rubber pellets. Paint buckets weighing over 150 pounds were then transported to the spraying team, who applied the mixture onto the track surface.

The base coat of rubber for the track is made of recycled tires, according to the crew. The tiny blue pellets mixed into the traction coat paint was “virgin” rubber.

Once that work is finished – the duration of the work depends on the weather – the company that has been contracted to paint the lines on the track will take care of its portion of the job.

The Warren Sports Boosters have been working on the renovation project for years and removal of the old track began in June.

The new field was in place in time for the Warren Area High School football team’s home opener in August. But, the field has not been available for use since due to the continuing work on the track.
