Leaves drive traffic to Warren County Visitors Bureau

It’s Peak Week.

That’s what the Warren County Visitors Bureau is calling the “approaching best color” on the state Department of Conservation and Natural Resources fall foliage forecast.

And they’re seeing the traffic that’s coming here for the leaves.

“We get calls everyday (asking) ‘when are you at peak?,'” Executive Director Casey Ferry said during Thursday’s board meeting.

She said they’ve seen a significant increase in people stopping in the Starbrick building this week.

“With the trees, people are coming through,” she said, including one couple from Ohio who just got onto US 6 and followed the trees.

“(We) often get asked where you can get the best views,” Lisa Card, the WCVB’s administrative assistant said. “That’s a big question.”

Ferry said the bureau also has a fall commercial in the works, taking advantage of the excellent colors this year.

SIGN CHANGE DISCUSSED

Ferry proposed exploring converting the bureau’s sign to something digital.

Changing the current sign is “weather dependent” and is limited to just two messages.

“I would love to see something that is electronic,” she said. That kind of arrangement would allow remote control and the ability to feature multiple messages.

Discussion on Thursday was just replacing the text portion of the sign.

Ferry said she reached out to Warren State Hospital which recently put up a sign on Rt. 62 and got a quote from that firm and is awaiting another estimate.

Starting at $3.50/week.
