The Family Fun Fall Festival features free events from costume contests to hayrides to a petting zoo.

The festival will be held from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 9, at the Kinzua Heritage Festival grounds on Fox Hill Road in Russell.

The event is free, open to the public, and sponsored by the Chief Cornplanter Council BSA and Kinzua Heritage Festival.

“We have got games, pumpkin painting, a s’mores station, face painting, a hayride, a scavenger hunt, and the Sheriff’s office will be up with therapy dog Olive from 2 to 4 p.m.,” Ruth Barnes Shaw said. “The Russell Volunteer Fire Department will be there with an engine in celebration of fire prevention week.”

There will be close-up street magic throughout by a graduated Eagle Scout, with a stage show at 3 p.m.

There will also be blacksmithing demonstrations with some souvenirs throughout the event.

The haunted hunting lodge – appropriate for younger patrons – will be open from about 2:30 to 5 p.m.

District Executive Jim Shaw will be building and shooting off bottle rockets every half hour.

Four Seasons Petting Zoo and Rescue Animals, will have animals available for visits.

“At 4 p.m. our costume contest starts,” Barnes Shaw said. The age divisions are up to 4, 5 to 12, 13 to 17, and 18 and up. The adults will be judged by youth.

North Star Lodge 241 will give away a kayak to benefit the council.

“We want the public to be able to come and have fun,” Barnes Shaw said.
