Warren County School District is taking a look at its facilities.
There was a master facilities plan item on the agenda before the physical plant and facilities committee on Monday.
"These are load capacity reports," Superintendent Amy Stewart said. "They look at classrooms. We tell them how many kids we have in there. They look at the capacity of the room compared to how we're utilizing it."
Although the capacity report didn't come through in time for the meeting, the committee and the board expect to hear details at the November meeting.
John Thomas of Thomas and Williamson - the company that is handling the district's master facilities plan works - is expected to join the board via Zoom.
"We will be able to ask any questions we want of him," Stewart said.
Not all of the district's spaces are in use by the district. The district has buildings that are no longer in use and space in some of the buildings that are. And, it may have found a tenant for some of those spaces.
"The county has reached out and they are looking for space," Stewart said. "We have excess space, particularly in the western attendance area."
"We are having dialogue," she said. "I'm anticipating an agreement coming forward in the next couple of months… what space we can allow them to utilize and what space they need."
The county might be interested in office space, storage space, or both.
"The county is always evaluating space," Commissioner Jeff Eggleston said. "The school conducted an auction at Pleasant Township Elementary School."
The district was not selling the school building, but the commissioners went to take a look at it.
"We're always looking for space for different things, storage, etc.," Eggleston said. "We looked at it as a group. Just a tour. There are no plans to do anything at this time with that space. We may or may not look at other facilities."
"The county has been contemplating a potential move of Human Services and perhaps 911, but no decisions of any kind have been made," he said.
In addition to its eight active school buildings and central office, the district owns the old Pleasant Township School, the old Sugar Grove Elementary School, the Anderson Building adjacent to Beaty-Warren Middle School, and the old Sheffield Elementary School - which has been sold, but closing has not been concluded.
