Paws Along The River seeks donations

Paws Along the River Humane Society welcomes donations. It has many needs.

But, what the people and animals there would like to see even more is adoptions.

“We’re here to adopt,” Executive Director Karen Kolos said.

“We have 72 cats – the phone doesn’t stop ringing with people wanting to bring pets in,” Kolos said. “There are so many cats here that are wonderful.”

There are dogs that have been waiting more than two years for homes.

To help move animals out of the shelter and into homes, Kolos said there is an adoption special of $35 for cats through the end of September.

All of the animals adopted from Paws Along the River have been checked by a veterinarian, spayed or neutered, have all their shots up to date, and other health needs addressed.

“Everything is done for $35,” she said.

The humane society is also working to streamline its adoption process, she said.

“When somebody fills out an application, we try to get you in here as soon possible,” she said.

There is a process, and it is a successful one. When someone takes an animal, they keep it. “We have a 97 percent permanent adoption rate,” Kolos said.

There is even an in-home trial period of up to 15 days.

The humane society can be reached at (814) 726-1961 or www.pawsalongtheriver.org.

Starting at $3.50/week.
