Flasher named to city council

Danielle Flasher has been appointed to Warren City Council.

Council had a vacancy to fill in the wake of Joe Michaels’ resignation and heard from four applicants before selecting Flasher during a Monday special meeting.

Mayor Dave Wortman said at the outset that the person selected to serve would hold the seat through Dec. 2023.

Flasher highlighted that she is a lifelong resident of Warren with work experience at local companies.

“I feel so blessed to have grown up here,” she said. “I have to have a sense of commitment, growth, expansion of the community. I want to be involved in that.”

She said she has no experience in this space “but I’ve watched. I would love to be a part, even a small part, of something bigger than myself.”

Flaser said she’s looking to “take what the people of the city want, need and are looking for and turn that into action.”

Specific issues she highlighted as important to her are EMS funding and the maintenance of the cars parked on city streets.

She highlighted the generational bridge she would bring to council and said she is “always open to hear and listen.”

Other applicants included Eric Jones, who highlighted past work and volunteer experience and stressed that he wants “to do something for my town.” Past councilmembers John Lewis and Gregory Fraser also threw their hat in the ring.

Lewis stressed the importance of seeing the picking a good city manager as his reason for seeking the position while Fraser highlighted his legal background and how that benefit the city when he was a councilmember.

Councilman Phil Gilbert nominated Fraser while Councilwoman Wendy McCain nominated Flasher.

Gilbert and Cashman then voted for Fraser while John Wortman, Jared Villella, McCain and Mayor Dave Wortman cast their votes for Flasher.

Starting at $3.50/week.
