‘Enforcement’ of dress code a priority

Warren County School District is posting examples of appropriate and inappropriate clothing to help students understand the policy.

For the past two years, Warren County School District has had enough on its plate that dress code violations were put on the back burner.

“We were focusing so much on health and safety, social and emotional,” that the dress code was not a major concern, Director of Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment Eric Mineweaser said.

While there are no significant changes to the code, the district plans to get back to enforcing it.

“The fundamentals of the dress code are the same as they have been,” Superintendent Amy Stewart said. “Over the last couple of years with the pandemic, enforcement of the dress code has not been a priority.”

The dress code applies to students in grades kindergarten through 12. “We’re reminding our students and explaining what’s inappropriate,” Mineweaser said. “Most of the clothing that the students will be wearing will be appropriate.

If not, administration or the teacher will address it.”

“We have rolled out additional procedures to have better consistency with dress code,” Stewart said.

Posters showing examples of appropriate and inappropriate clothing will be posted in public areas for students to see.

The introduction to the dress code policy is: “Dress reflects the quality of the school, behavior, and the students’ schoolwork. Students are expected to dress in clothes suitable for school and school related activities. Shirts/tops must cover shoulder to shoulder and must be long enough to be tucked in at the waist (if requested). Undergarments cannot show.”

“It is time to get things back to normal,” Stewart said.

Starting at $3.50/week.
