The progress at War Memorial Field continues.

Paving of the track areas began Wednesday.

Huber Blacktop of Warren started with the D-shaped ends of the field where jumping events are held.

On Thursday, the company will put down the binder course for the track oval, Daryl Huber said.

That course is 2.5-inches thick, compacted.

The 1.5-inch-thick wearing course will be installed on Friday, weather permitting, and Saturday, if necessary.

Once those materials have cured for 28 days, the company that will put the finish layer on top will be able to begin, Huber said. “Beynon will put down the rubber membrane running surface.”

That sets a start date for that work no earlier than Aug. 15.

There were pipes sticking up through the pavement as of Wednesday. Those are part of the solution found to improve drainage at the facility, Huber said. The pipes will be made flush with the track surface once all the material has been put down.

The installation of the field surface is on the schedule for mid-July, according to Warren Sports Boosters President Michael Boyd, and the facility is expected to be ready for athletic competition at the start of the fall sports season.

Starting at $3.50/week.
