Bridge replacement set in Bear Lake

A bridge replacement on Greeley Street in Bear Lake will bring a week-long detour later this month.

Work is set to replace the bridge over a tributary of the Little Brokenstraw and is scheduled to start on July 24.

According to PennDOT, the bridge is located between Main Street and the Happytown Road on Greeley Street.

The existing bridge will be replaced with a box culvert and cross pipe. Officials say the work will be completed by the end of July.

“Construction will require a seven-day detour that will be posted using Pine Valley Road, Route 957 and Route 958,” PennDOT said in a statement.

“The existing 13-foot structure was built in 1926 and is classified as poor condition. Approximately 425 vehicles a day use the bridge, on average.”

The work will be completed by a firm from State College, Glenn O. Hawbaker, and the cost is $420,420.

“PennDOT urges motorists to slow down when driving in work zones, and also to be alert to changing conditions, avoid distractions and to pay attention to signs and flaggers,” PennDOT said. “Drive responsibly in work zones for your safety and the safety of the workers.”

Starting at $3.50/week.
