Playground program registration kicks off

Times Observer photos by Josh Cotton Registration for the City of Warren’s Playground Program has begun. Here are some kids that were part of the program last year playing at Beaty Park.

The City of Warren’s Playground Program might not kick off for a month.

But registration is set to start today.

The program will provide supervised playground programming for children ages seven to 13 from June 14 through Aug. 5. The program runs Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day.

“I hope that kids in our program get an enriching and fun outdoor experience that is a highlight to their summers,” said Ryan Zavinski, the city’s playground program coordinator.

Pre-registrations will take place today at the Beaty Playground from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. and then again at Lacy Playground on Wednesday, also from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Registration information can also be found online at cityofwarrenpa.gov/playground. The city is also looking for playground supervisors and information about that is available at cityofwarrenpa.gov/employment.

Only city residents are permitted to register children for the program.

The program was canceled in 2020 and ran on a limited basis in 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Zavinski is looking to 2022 to bring back elements from before the pandemic.

In addition to supervised fun with the playground equipment and supplies, this year we will be able to get back to doing field trips and having more guests come to the parks,” he said, “ to expose our community’s children to the opportunities that the greater Warren area provides.”

Starting at $2.99/week.
