Council endorses senior living project

The Warren City Council has endorsed the proposed senior living project at the corner of Pennsylvania Avenue and Liberty Street.

The proposal would bring a 40-unit housing complex to a corner of the downtown that officials say has been vacant for decades.

It would be funded by state tax credits and the developer, Hudson Companies, is preparing to submit the project for funding for the fourth time.

City Councilman Maurice Cashman said he and Councilman John Wortman visited a Hudson project in Clarendon and said “both of us were very, very impressed with the facility.”

Wortman called the Clarion project “very well maintained… very nice landscaping.”

He said they met several residents who “had very positive comments.”

“I don’t believe there’s another facility in Warren like that,” Cashman said, calling such a development “quite an addition I would have to say.”

“This opportunity will allow members of our community to remain members of our community for a longer period of time,” Wortman added. “Every person that lives in the City of Warren adds character, makes a better experience for all of us that live here.”

Executive Secretary Teena Leary said Hudson Companies is asking for a letter of support of the project to accompany the funding application.

The council approved such a letter unanimously.
