A date for sentencing — and a sexually violent predator hearing — have been set against a Megan’s Law sexual offender who pleaded guilty to aggravated indecent assault of a child.

Richard D. Barrett, 56, currently incarcerated in the county jail, pleaded guilty to a sole count of aggravated indecent assault of a child back in January.

The hearing and sentencing had been scheduled for Thursday but were continued as a result of a motion by the Warren County District Attorney’s office to May 5 at 1:30 p.m.

According to the affidavit of probable cause, Pennsylvania State Police were notified in November 2020 by Warren Forest Children and Youth Services of a possible sexual assault.

The alleged victim, who was less than 10 years old at the time of the alleged assaults, was interviewed at the Warren County Children’s Advocacy Center the next day, according to the affidavit.

She said Barrett had sexually assaulted her multiple times and in various ways, according to police. Court documents show an offense date of January 2019.

The alleged victim described the location of the assaults as a barn on Barrett’s property, according to the affidavit, and provided details of the inside of the barn.

According to information from the Pennsylvania State Police, the charge to which he pleaded guilty carries a lifetime registration term under Megan’s Law.

Those aren’t Barrett’s only current legal problems.

He faces three additional criminal dockets that are currently awaiting trial that include charges of rape and corruption of minors, aggravated indecent assault of a child and charges for failing to keep his sexual offender registration up to date with the state police.

Barrett is listed on the Pennsylvania Sexual Offender Registry for a February 1996 conviction in Florida for sexual battery of a child.
