Students learn about fishes of Allegheny River

By Brian Ferry 1 min read

Tidioute Community Charter School is celebrating Fish Week -- but not just for a week.

Ninth and tenth graders learned about the fishes of the Allegheny River and other local waterways from Dr. Bill Hanson.

Hanson has a doctorate degree in wildlife and fisheries science and is a 1974 graduate of Warren Area High School.

In addition to discussing the species that live locally, Hanson talked about fish families, habitat, and anatomy.

He is a regular visitor to the school and the students showed their appreciation by presenting him with a signed sign.

In addition to the classroom work on fish, the class will release fish they have been raising, there is a fly-fishing field trip next month, and some students will be visiting the Allegheny National Fish Hatchery.

Starting at /week.
