Next week is Girl Scout Week.

And local Girl Scouts have undertaken a service project to benefit baby girls born at Warren General Hospital.

Seven troops and Indie Scouts all participated in the effort. Two troops, 36515 and 60172, delivered the items to the hospital on Tuesday.

"This donation has been happening for 14 years or more," Shauna Sanders explained. "All troops are supposed to do something nice during Girl Scout week and this is one thing we have decided to do and keep doing."

The scouts select the items and "we put them in packages to hand to the parents," she said. "It's just something simple."

"Girl Scout Sunday during the same week we visit the churches we use for our meetings and do something nice as well," she added.

The donation to the hospital "just started as an idea one day and that is what we do, welcoming girls to the (world) to be part of our sisterhood."

With the worst of the pandemic hopefully in the rear view mirror, the Girl Scouts are looking ahead.

"Everything is starting to go back to normal," Sanders said. "We are allowed to camp … again together and hold meetings and have fun again."

She said there are currently 244 registered scouts.

"We are hoping to have more adults choose to volunteer and open up more troops for girls that are patiently waiting to be part of Girl Scouts," she added. "Volunteers are needed."
