It takes help to stock 3.2 million trout in waterways across the state.
And the Pennsylvania Fish & Boat Commission is asking for help.
"In many parts of (the) state, very few volunteers have been participating in stocking events this season, which are typically very popular and are vital to properly spreading out trout in hundreds of waterways," the Commission said in a statement.
"Right now, you don't have to sign up to help. You just show up at the stocking point, the meeting point, and we'll have lots of trout for you to put in the streams, and make a good experience for everyone when they are spread out," Doug Deppen, waterways conservation officer said.
The Commission acknowledges that higher gas prices may be a reason why volunteer turnout is lower than normal but they note that COVID-10 restrictions in place in 2020 and 2021 are no longer in place.
The stockings are open to any volunteers and no pre-registration is required.
"(I)f you just stop and help us for two or three stops, that makes a world of difference for everyone," Deppen said. "Last couple of years, we haven't been able to have as many volunteers as we wanted to, but right now, we're welcoming everyone to come out and help us.
We really need those volunteers to come out and help us spread the fish out."
