Partnership will honor Vietnam veterans

Blue Star Mothers, the Department of Defense, and the Warren County Veterans Affairs Office are teaming up to honor veterans.

The groups will hold a Vietnam War Commemoration at 3 p.m. Saturday, April 30, at the Woman’s Club of Warren.

“The Blue Star Mothers have partnered with the Department of Defense to honor our Vietnam Veterans,” Blue Star Mothers of Kinzua Chapter President Skyla Govier said. “The DOD recognizes any active duty service member that has served between the dates of 1955-1975, regardless of location.”

Local, state, and federal representatives have been invited to participate in the event, including Congressman Glenn Thompson, Rep. Kathy Rapp, Sen. Scott Hutchinson, City of Warren Mayor Dave Wortman, Warren County YMCA Executive Director and former Navy SEAL Thad Turner.

We will have Senator Hutchinson, Thad Turner, Representative Kathy Rapp and Mayor Wortman.

There is no more space for invitations for the April 30 event.

“We have maxed out for our veterans’ names for this event but we do not want to leave anyone out,” Govier said. “This is going to be a very big day.”

For those who are not on the list this time, there will be more chances.

“We will accept names for a future event,” she said.

Those who would like to be put on a waiting list may call Blue Star Mothers at (814) 230-0804.

Starting at $3.50/week.
