Seasonal event returns in early February
Winterfest is back.
“Back and better than ever,” is the promise on the Winterfest Facebook page.
A full slate of wintry events is set for Feb. 4, 5, and 6 at Chapman State Park as the festival returns after a complete shut-down in 2021.
The event has seen some hard times – with a lack of snow, lack of access to the usual site, lack of a lake, and restrictions on how many people could gather at an outdoor event.
The festival is scheduled to run from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 4, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 5, and from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday, Feb 6.
Friday’s events include the 32-mile sled dog race and the Meet the Musher dinner.
Saturday features the Polar Bear Plunge (to benefit the Salvation Army), a geomeet, more sled-dog racing, ice fishing, and the start of the canine weight pull.
Sunday sees the conclusion of the weight pull.
There will be food and crafts. Family events and activities – including ice skating and sled riding – will be ongoing throughout the event.
