Plan change for All-County Musical

It’s time to get serious about the All-County Musical.

But, there’s a problem with the cast of characters.

Specifically, there aren’t enough characters to make up the cast.

When the auditions were held for Music Man, 23 students showed up.

The show calls for 30.

Producers were in a hurry to shift direction and get started on a show. They asked the school board to approve an agreement for a show that requires fewer members.

On Monday, the Warren County School District board of directors voted unanimously to approve an agreement with Concord Theatricals for Joseph and the Technicolor Dreamcoat.

Superintendent Amy Stewart said the numbers, and the personalities and talents of the students who did audition were problematic for Music Man.

“They want to make sure the show aligns with the talent of the kids,” Stewart said.

The new show will be a better fit, according to the producers, she said.

The shortfall of auditions is not a singular event in the district.

“Getting kids to go out and participate for a lot of things is difficult right now,” she said. “This is not limited to music – across-the-board getting kids to participate in everything.”

Starting at $3.50/week.
