County sees back-to-back days of more than 70 COVID cases

Warren County closed out the week with consecutive days of over 70 new cases of COVID-19, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Health.

The latest data show 72 new cases reported Friday, 76 Thursday, 19 Wednesday, and 69 Tuesday.

In December 2020, the department reported consecutive days of 70, 59, 80, and 72 new cases.

Earlier this month, the department reported a three-day string of 82, 27, and 75.

There have been 6,164 total cases in the county so far, with 4,690 of those listed as confirmed.

One death was added to the county’s report on Thursday and another on Friday, bringing the local COVID death toll to 188.

The rolling average of patients hospitalized for COVID has gone up this week. After five days at 4, the number doubled to 8 on Thursday and rose to 9 on Friday.

There have been a significant number of young people catching the disease over the past two weeks. The most recent data from the department show 14 cases among children under five and 39 among children ages 5 to 18, during the week from Jan. 5 through Jan. 11. Since August, there have been 85 children under five, and 430 school-age children reported to have had COVID-19.

The county’s positivity rate is 25.35, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

The department determines positivity by taking the number of people who test positive in a seven-day period and dividing it by the number of tests that were administered in the same period.

According to the department, 17,391 county residents (about 44.4 percent) have been fully vaccinated, with 7,607 of those receiving additional booster shots.
