Borough helps replace bike crunched by plow

Every once in a while, it’s important to be reminded about how people step up to meet needs in the community.
This recent snowstorm inadvertently caused one of those situations.
Fred Sivi delivers the Times Observer in Youngsville. His mode of transportation is his bicycles, even in the snow.
“After the big snow storm hit our area, he was out delivering newspapers to local residences while his bike was parked on the street due to early morning snow covered sidewalks,” Youngsville Police Chief Todd Mineweaser explained.
A snowplow came along and ran the bike over.
The situation was brought to the borough and Borough Manager Wendy Wilcox wanted to replace the bike.
Mineweaser reached out to Conewango Township Police Chief Jason Peters, who put him in touch with Josh Blystone, the Warren Walmart manager.
“Josh had Walmart donate this new bike to Fred,” Mineweaser explained. “Fred was very thankful and excited to be able to deliver his newspapers on his new bike.
“It’s amazing (and a) blessing what people will do to help one another with just a few phone calls.”
