The Silver Winds Flute Choir is looking forward to a “Joyful Reunion” with live performance.

The choir will present a free concert entitled “Joyful Reunion” at 7 p.m. Monday, Dec. 6, at First United Methodist Church, 200 Market St., Warren.

“We are delighted to be performing for a live audience again,” Choir Coordinator Becky Darbee said. “This is our first event since December 2019. Not only are we happy to see each other and our audience, but we are excited to be playing old flute choir favorites.”

The Silver Winds Flute Choir is an ensemble consisting of six flutists from Warren County area and beyond, according to Darbee. This group grew from a core group of five musicians that began playing together in 2007. The group size has fluctuated over time with up to ten flutists in the Choir. The full complement of flutists allows the choir to perform a wide range of styles represented in the flute choir repertoire.

The choir performs a variety of music that includes classical, popular, sacred, and Celtic selections, she said.

Many of these pieces are well known songs, hymns, or compositions, originally written for orchestra or mixed ensemble, that have been transcribed for flute choir. “The choir also performs selections written specifically for the unique combination of instruments that create the modern flute choir. Silver Winds performs using the C-flute, piccolo, alto, and bass flute. This instrumentation is one many audience members experience for the first time at a flute choir performance.”

The Joyful Reunion program includes classical, popular, and modern selections including a Boismortier concerto for 5 flutes, Paul Bunyan and the Blue Ox (a modern flute choir musical story), three dances from Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker, familiar carols – Deck the Halls, Joy to the World, Pat a Pan, Jeanette Isabelle, Good King Wenceslas – and more.
