Township officials to gather Monday

Township officials from across the county will be gathering Monday for the annual County Convention.

The event kicks off at 8 a.m. at the Youngsville Volunteer Fire Hall.

“The purpose of the annual convention is to provide township officials with up-to-date information to help them better serve their residents and to give them an opportunity to exchange ideas on local government issues,” according to a statement.

“The convention will feature a wide range of speakers, including James Wheeler, chief environmental policy officer of the Pennsylvania State Association of Township Supervisors,” the statement detailed.

“Wheeler will talk about legislation affecting townships of the second class, association programs and services for townships, and issues of major importance to townships and their residents.”

Of the county’s 27 municipalities, 21 fit the criteria of a township of the second class. There are a total of 1,454 townships in that class across the state.

Other speakers will include Representative Kathy Rapp, Terri Cunkle with the state Department of Community and Economic Development, the Warren County Commissioners, Josh Montgomery and Adam Elms with PennDOT, County Planner Dan Glotz and Dave Sherman, executive director of the Warren County Visitors Bureau.
