More Caps for Sale and a chance to win.

Warren Public Library collaborated with downtown businesses to kick off its second Story Walk this month.

The first walk, in July, featured Caps for Sale by Esphyr Slobodkina.

“There were so many positive comments from families, teachers, and participating businesses, so we did it again,” Children’s Librarian Susan Slater said. “The second Story Walk focused on the follow-up picture book, More Caps for Sale by Esphyr Slobodkina with Ann Marie Mulhearn Sayer.”

Youngsters who participated in the walk were encouraged to return submission forms to the library and be entered in a drawing.

“Twelve names were pulled,” Slater said. “Each of the 12 children received a gift bag filled with items that related to the story – T-shirts, posters, a copy of the book (all donated by the Slobodkina Foundation) and some other monkey tidbits.”

The winners were: Joseph Vermilyea, Emmet Yaegle, Audrey Wurst, Spencer Brown, Alix Peterson, Cecelia Belleau, Cambria Johnson, Nine Harrington, Marshall Harrington, Mara Pohle, Benji Bielawski, and Maddex Vinopal.

Slater said the library collaborated with 13 businesses along Liberty Street that posted pages of the book in their windows: Crone’s Gifts & Medical Supplies, McKissock, Darlings Home Care, State Farm Insurance, Authors Book & Music Bookshop, Rotten Records, Warren Antiques & Giftware, Jamestown Mattress, Stone Consulting, Inc., Quick Solutions, Arbor Coffee House Cafe & Tea Room, Herbs R4U2 and Gaughn’s Drugstore.

She is planning to hold the next Story Walk in the summer of 2022.
