District provides teaching options for quarantined students
Warren County School District students who are denied entry due to close contacts with someone who is positive for COVID-19 are not excused from the educational process.
As of Monday night, there were 109 students denied entry from their schools.
According to a letter addressed to parents and sent home with students: “As COVID-19 cases continue to rise, the district’s contact-tracing team is finding multiple students in all buildings having to be temporarily denied entry to school. The students who are quarantined are either positive cases or a close contact to a positive case. Though the students are temporarily denied entry to school, the district is required to provide educational opportunities until they are able to return.”
Quarantined students in grades six through 12 are expected to log in using Microsoft Teams, receive assignments and instructions, and complete and turn in work when it is due.
Some teachers have chosen to allow quarantined students to attend school from home — the same as the Option 3 from last year, but Option 3 is not otherwise available this year. Students can follow their schedules each day using Microsoft Teams. Teachers may choose to share their SmartTV screens and open lessons to audio.
There are a number of district teachers who are assigned as quarantine teachers.
When a quarantined student has trouble with assignments, that student may reach out to a quarantine teacher.
“The expectation is if the student has any questions on their assignment, they are to first contact the quarantine teacher and see if they can get help that way,” according to the letter. “If the quarantine teacher can not help them, the quarantine teacher is to email the student’s teacher and explain the problem to him/her. The teacher is expected to reply to the student within 24 hours of receiving the email.”
A quarantine teacher who is available when the student has a question, but does not have the expertise to answer it, may move that question along to the proper quarantine teacher.
