McCain resigns as Struthers director

Wendy McCain has announced her resignation as executive director of the Struthers Library Theatre.
“Three years ago, you, the Warren community embraced me and since then, your positive feedback has been overwhelming,” McCain told the Times Observer. “With the help of our community’s generosity and support of the theatre’s board of trustees, great things have occurred during the last three years….”
She highlighted not only the Theatre’s “survival of the pandemic” but a series of other accomplishments — the Library room is now equipped with a licensed catering kitchen, the acquisition of a liquor license, the creation of the Sally’s Encore Theatre bar, restoration of the Rehearsal Hall, a $1 million endowment gift from Juliet and Walter Hornburg as well as an introduction of regional acts and increased sponsorship and membership. She also highlighted updates of accounting, ticketing and file systems.
McCain said she couldn’t get into specifics of why she is leaving but said the parting is amicable and does not impact her standing as a candidate for a seat on Warren City Council this fall.
“Personally, I am grateful to the community and the Theatre’s Board of Trustees for making these successes possible,” McCain said. “This has been the best job I’ve ever had in my life, an experience which I have loved, enjoyed and will cherish forever.”
“Our theatre has survived for 138 years and it will continue on regardless of who is at the helm,” McCain added. “I wish continued success with my grateful appreciation for the opportunity provided me to participate.”
Susan Stout, president of the Board of Trustees, said the trustees received McCain’s letter of resignation Monday morning.
“The board hasn’t had a chance to get together and discuss it,” she said, though a trustees meeting, Stout said, has been scheduled.
