The U.S Army Corps of Engineers is looking for volunteers to staff the visitor center at the Big Bend Recreation Area at the base of the dam.

Several part-time volunteer positions will be needed to staff the center starting on May 28.

“We are looking for someone to be able to answer questions that the public might have about the dam and the area in general,” U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Resource Manager Doug Helman said.

A statement from the Corps of Engineers encourages anyone interested to apply, especially retired seniors as well as high school and college students. Anyone under 18 must have parental consent to participate.

“They must be able to spend a lot of time meeting and greeting the public and occupy their time when no visitors are around,” Helman added.

The visitor center is set to be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily and work schedules are flexible.

“We only ask our volunteers to do one day a week unless they would like to do more,” Helman said. “We are open to however the volunteer wants to work.”

Several part-time positions are available.

Anyone interested is asked to contact the Kinzua Dam office at (814) 726-0661 for additional information as well as volunteer application forms.
