Man charged with attempting to pay for sex

A North Warren man faces felony promoting prostitution of a minor charges for allegedly offering to pay a 14-year-old girl to have sex with him.

Scott Jon Cressley, 45, 7 Jackson Run Road, was charged by Conewango Township police on Friday afternoon.

Police received the initial report on March 24 when the mother of a 14-year-old female reported that she and her daughter spent the night with Cressley at his residence.

The mother reported that “during the early morning hours” of March 21 “Cressley had approached her and offered to pay her to have sex with him,” per the affidavit of probable cause.

She told the interviewer that she left the room but that Cressley continued “upping his offer until he reached $2,500. She still refused.” She then said Cressley “left the residence for approximately 20 minutes and when he came back into the house he threw a large number of $20 bills at her on the couch….”

She refused again and gave him the money back and said that the next day Cressley sent her a message “apologizing for what he had asked her to do.”

During a forensic interview at the Children’s Advocacy Center, the juvenile confirmed they stayed with Cresslet, telling the interviewer “that after everyone else was asleep Scott sat next to her on the couch” and started touching her, attempting to reach down her pants.

She said she pushed him away and told him to stop.

“Scott then asked her if she would like to male $500,” the affidavit continues. “She responded by saying ‘For What?’ and he responded back, ‘You know what.'”

Police subsequently obtained a search warrant for bank records of Cressley’s which showed a $500 withdrawal posted to his account on March 22.

They spoke with bank officials who indicated that withdrawal could not have posted to his account on March 21 because transactions are not registered on Sundays.

Online court records show that police charged Cressley with two counts of promoting prostitution of a minor as well as a count of corruption of minors, all felonies.

He was arraigned by District Judge Laura Bauer on Friday afternoon and remanded to the county jail in lieu of $25,000 bail.

A preliminary hearing in the matter is scheduled for May 26 at 11 a.m.
