Man, 55, charged with sex assault

A Glade Township man already facing numerous felonies has been charged with sexual assault of a child.

Richard D. Barrett, 55, of 3435 Conewango Ave., is charged with aggravated indecent assault of a child.

According to the affidavit of probable cause, a man saw a young girl trying to touch the genitals of another child. When he asked the child why, she told him Barrett had done that to her.

An interview at the Children's Advocacy Center established that the child was five years old at the time of the alleged incident - March 2020. The child told the interviewer that Barrett was naked at the time, according to the affidavit.

Barrett was arraigned late Monday before Magisterial District Judge Laura Bauer and taken to Warren County jail after failing to post $100,000 bail.

He is scheduled for a preliminary hearing at 3 p.m. Wednesday, June 2.

He faces three felony counts of endangering the welfare of children related to the drowning death of a two-year-old child from Aug. 17, 2020. Barrett posted bail on that docket.

He has subsequently been charged with rape of a child, statutory sexual assault, involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, sexual assault, aggravated indecent assault, indecent assault, two counts of corruption of minors, and indecent exposure, from an alleged incident of Jan. 19, 2019, filed in January 2021; and rape - forcible compulsion, and corruption of minors, from an alleged Feb. 21, 1986 incident, filed in March 2021.

Because those charges are related to events that allegedly took place before Barrett posted bail in the August 2020 incident they do not represent violations of his bail conditions.

He posted bail on those additional dockets and is scheduled for settlement conferences in each of the three prior cases on June 14 and, if needed, further court scheduling on June 28.
