No bodies found in Wednesday search

Times Observer photo by Josh Cotton The New York State Police Underwater Recovery Team searched from Betts Park to Point Park on Wednesday in connection with two missing person cases. No one was found.

Continued search efforts in two missing person cases were unsuccessful on Wednesday.

Search resources out of New York State came down to continue the effort in the search for John Christopher Nelson, who was last seen on Feb. 5, and Nicole Lee Font, last seen on March 14.

City of Warren Police Capt. Jeff Dougherty said Wednesday’s effort focused the area between Betts Park and Point Park.

He said the New York State Police Underwater Recovery Team will be using a sonar unit and divers and that the Jamestown Police Department’s drone team will also assist in the effort.

He said nobody was found as a result of the search.

Police have maintained throughout the investigation that the cases appear to be unrelated and that there is no suspected foul play.

A “thorough” search of the Allegheny River was conducted on Friday and Saturday in connection with the cases that also did not result in any recovery.

The search area at that point stretched from Point Park to Mead Island in Starbrick but nothing was found..

“Our information on Mr. Nelson, all avenues pointed to him being in the river,” City of Warren Police Chief Joe

Sproveri said on Saturday. “We were able to rule out many possibilities for Ms. Font.”

City police worked over the weekend with the Warren Fire Department, Glade VFD, Rosie Marketing LLC’s drone service, the Chautauqua County Dive Team, the Jamestown Police Drone team and the NY State Police K9 Unit.

Dougherty said anyone on the river that observes anything should call 911 and “stay in the area until law enforcement arrives.”

Starting at $3.50/week.
