Hospitality businesses may apply for grant funding

The application process is live for the $450,000 in grant funding the county received specifically targeted to the hospitality industry.

The funding is part of the state COVID-19 Hospitality Industry Recovery Program.

The Northwest Commission — identified as the county’s certified economic development organization — will oversee the distribution of the funds in Warren County.

Jill Foys, executive director says “The program is intended to assist those hospitality businesses who were impacted by global pandemic,” Jill Foys, the commission’s executive director said. “The application process is required to be online and we are working closely with our County Commissioners and their economic development agencies and fiscal staff to make the process as user friendly as possible.”

Commissioner Ben Kafferlin said the application process is included on the front page of the county’s website at warrencopa.com.

A total of $145 million was allocated by the state for the program.

Rebecca Beach, the commission’s loan program manager, explained the funding was divided based on 2019 census update population figures.

She said the specific total coming to the county is $443,892.

According to the Commission, the program aims to cover business expenses not paid by other federal, state or local grants.

They explained that to be eligible businesses will need to document a loss of at least 25 percent gross revenue in any quarter of 2020 compared to the same quarter in 2019.

“Those who were part of the Commonwealth’s mandated shut down due to the pandemic, had 50% or more loss of gross revenue and have not received other grants will be given priority consideration for the funds,” a statement explained.

Procedurally, applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis until the funding has been exhausted or June 15, whichever comes first.

According to the governor’s office, grants will be awarded in $5,000 increments up to a $50,000 maximum.
