Homicide charges brought against Spring Creek man for Monday shooting

A Spring Creek man is behind bars on homicide charges in connection with a Monday evening shooting in Spring Creek Township.

Haggar Steven Brewer, Sr., 57, was arrested by Warren-based Pennsylvania State Police this morning.

Troopers were dispatched to 24050 Cold Spring Road on Monday evening shortly after 7:30 p.m. for a report of a shooting.

“Upon arrival, a known individual was found deceased at the scene,” according to a statement from police.

The victim was subsequently identified as Victor Vernon Vantassel, III, 57.

Troopers quickly identified a person of interest and took that individual into custody. They later identified him as Brewer and reported that he was “charged with a general count of criminal homicide and other related charges for the shooting death of” Vantassel.

“Brewer,” police say, “will be remanded to the Warren County Jail pending preliminary arraignment.”

Troopers were assisted by the Warren County District Attorney’s Office and Warren County Detectives.

District Attorney Rob Greene declined to comment this morning.

Anyone with additional information is asked to contact state police by calling (814) 728-3600.
