Explorer Post finding path to serve departments

Photo submitted to the Times Observer Warren County Fire/EMS Explorer Post Chief Jacob Bullock works on a service project Saturday — painting a dozen doors —on Saturday at the North Warren VFD.

Part of the purpose of the Warren County Fire/EMS Explorer Post is to link the youth that are involved to the departments that serve throughout the county.

One way the post aims to meet that mission? Service projects.

On Saturday, that took the form of painting doors at the North Warren VFD.

“The juniors and I are trying to provide free service projects to the departments within the county,” Savannah Casey, post advisor said. “This was our first coordinated one and, within reason, we should be able to fulfill all projects at no cost to the departments. That’s our goal anyways.”

Joining Casey on Saturday were Explorer Post Chief Jacob Bullock – who volunteers with the Starbrick VFD – and Nancy Bullock, the post’s secretary.

“The kids just want for these projects to be a “thank you” to all departments,” Casey said. “They would like the community to be aware of the need for volunteer firefighters and that funding for all the departments is, and will always be, the biggest concern.”

Departments with projects needs are asked to contact Casey at 723-3050 or email szimmerman@wccbi.org.

“Small service projects that can help maintain the upkeep of a department are always needed, as are the volunteers willing to donate their time and resources,” she said. We are those volunteers.”

Starting at $3.50/week.
