Aerial search turns up nothing

A Pennsylvania State Police helicopter was seen Tuesday flying low over the Allegheny River in Warren County.

State police out of Aviation Patrol Unit 5 in Latrobe assisted City of Warren Police in a search for a missing Warren man.

Police found no sign of John ‘Chris’ Nelson, 55, who was last seen on Feb. 5.

A ground-based search was conducted shortly after he was declared missing, including a search of an area of the river near Point Park.

City police and state police flew low over the county, especially checking along the river.

“We hoped that with the weather change and with the ice melting we would get a better look at the river,” City of Warren Police Chief Joe Sproveri said. “We were unable to find anything or anybody.”

Sproveri expressed his thanks to state police for assisting “the department in an aerial search of the river.”

Anyone with information about the whereabouts of Nelson is asked to call City of Warren Police at 723-2700.
