No deaths, but eight new cases in county

There were no new deaths and eight new cases of COVID in Warren County announced by the Pennsylvania Department of Health on Tuesday.

The total number of cases stands at 2,035 – 1,677 confirmed and 358 probable.

Deaths remained at 92.

The number of COVID-positive patients at Warren General dropped by one — from seven to six — from Monday’s statistics. None of those patients were on ventilators and none were in intensive care.

At State Correctional Institution — Forest in Marienville, COVID circumstances have made a sharp turn for the better.

Following Thursday’s reporting of 750 active cases among inmates with four deaths, and 17 active cases among staff with no deaths, Monday’s information showed a dramatic improvement.

The Department of Corrections reported no additional deaths, and only 100 active cases among inmates and 16 among employees at the facility on Monday.

The outbreak at the prison started in early January and catapulted Forest County into the state-wide lead in terms of cases per 100,000 population. Almost two out of every 10 residents of Forest County, including the inmates, had or had had COVID-19 as of Tuesday, according to the Department of Health.

There had been about 1,000 total cases at SCI – Forest, among its population of some 2,300.

The rest of the county had about 240 cases out of 5,000 people.

Of that prison population, less than 50 were sent from Warren County courts.

There are more than 650 full-time employees, according to the Department of Corrections.
