Veterans hoping to receive a COVID-19 vaccine have some options not available to the general public.
Veterans 75 and older who are eligible for and enrolled in VA health care and receive that care at the Erie VA Medical Center or one of the regional clinics -- including the Warren Community-Based Outpatient Clinic -- are eligible immediately.
The VA has already been contacting those who are considered 'high-risk.' The change applies to veterans ages 75 and over regardless of other conditions.
"We do have vaccine," Public Affairs Officer Sarah Gudgeon said. "Our Erie VA Medical Center team continues to work diligently to roll out our supply of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine quickly, safely, and fairly based on CDC guidelines. We're getting it out as fast as we can."
"It's a limited amount. We are able to continue scheduling veterans," Gudgeon said. "We continue to get additional vaccine on a weekly basis."
"Our vaccine clinics are by appointment only. They can call our main call center line -- (814) 868-8661 -- to schedule their appointment to receive the first dose," she said. "Press 2 and ask to schedule your vaccine."
"We're very excited to provide this hope to our community," she said. "We're hearing phenomenal responses from our veterans."
