Thousands Of Acres

County land sold in large timber property sale

A New Hampshire timber company has purchased thousands of acres in north central Pennsylvania, including significant acreage in Warren County.

The Lyme Timber Company closed its acquisition of 92,000 acres of forest land in North Central Pennsylvania and Southwest New York from Seneca Resources on Thursday, Dec. 10.

A statement on the sale indicates that the land is “primarily in Potter, McKean, Cameron and Elk counties, Pennsylvania, and the acquisition leads to Lyme’s 67,000 acre existing forestland ownership in the region.”

Warren County assessment records indicate that Seneca Resources Company LLC owned a total of 30 parcels in Warren County.

Those parcels total 6,193.05 acres, those records show.

Many of the parcels are listed “unknown” but many are located in southeastern Warren County, consistent with a map of the sale provided by the purchasing company.

It’s unclear whether all of the parcels the firm owns in the county are part of the sale.

The purchasing entity has established a firm to be based in Coudersport — Three Rivers Forest Management — which they say will “manage the combined land base, which spans 14 counties in Pennsylvania and five counties in New York.

Lyme’s CEO Jim Hourdequin: “This is an exciting time of growth for our business in Pennsylvania,” Lyme CEO Jim Hourdequin said. “Seneca has managed the property for over a century to deliver economic and ecological value to the region. The land compliments our existing land base, enables efficiencies in our operations, and provides access to a vibrant local forest products economy.”

The general manager of the local business, David Andrus, added that they “look forward to growing our relationships with local forest products businesses in northern Pennsylvania.”

Starting at $3.50/week.
