Simple Gifts will perform a free concert from 3 to 4:30 p.m. today at the Chapman State Park amphitheater.

“Two women plus ten instruments equal one good time, and you’re in for a very special treat,” according to a release from Chapman State Park. “Karen Hirshon and Linda Littleton play a wide variety of ethnic folk music, and you’ll hear selections that range from lively Irish jigs and down-home American reels to hard-driving Klezmer freilachs, haunting Gypsy melodies, and exotic Balkan dance tunes. Throughout their performance, Simple Gifts puts their own distinctive stamp on traditional tunes, creating some of the finest arrangement in folk music today.”

An hour-long spoons workshop will follow the concert.

“Simple Gifts teaches participants of all ages to play spoons, following in the Appalachian tradition where two teaspoons are held in one hand and played as a percussion instrument,” according to the release.

The program is recommended for ages 8 to adult and attendance is limited to 25.

In case of rain, both events will be held in Pavilion 4.

Participants are required to wear masks for all programs and events.

Scavenger hunts and geocaching

The park has set up self-guided GPS Scavenger Hunts.

The starting point is the beach house.

Visitors will need a GPS unit or smartphone.

The ‘Where in the Park is Bigfoot?’ geocache starts at the amphitheater.

It can be done with or without a GPS. Clues (with coordinates for those using GPS) will take visitors from the amphitheater to the cache.
