Morrison Bridge repairs completed

A $1.5 million rehabilitation project that has snarled traffic over the Morrison Bridge for months has been completed.

Work on the bridge — which carries Rt. 59 over the Allegheny Reservoir near Kinzua Beach — started back on May 19.

A temporary traffic signal was used to control traffic for much of that time and PennDOT says the signal was removed on Wednesday, when both lanes of the bridge were reopened.

“The project included the reconstruction of the two-lane concrete structure with new barriers and bridge deck, repairs to the expansion dams, new roadway approaches, and guiderail updates,” PennDOT said.

The bridge was built in 1963. Approximately 1,650 vehicles a day use the bridge, on average.

The work cost $1,508,775.75, paid 80 percent with federal funds and 20 percent with state funds.
