Two weekend crashes claim three lives

Two crashes — one Saturday night in Brokenstraw Township and the other on Sunday afternoon in Pittsfield Township — have claimed the lives of three individuals.

Warren-based Pennsylvania State responded to an address on Matthew’s Run Road on Saturday night at 10:57 p.m. where a 2002 Harley-Davidson struck a road closure sign before striking a Caterpillar road paving vehicle.

Police say the driver, Zachary F. McLaughlin, 29, Youngsville, didn’t appear to make “any avoidance maneuvers” prior to impact.

McLaughlin, police say, was not wearing a helmet and was ejected from the vehicle. He was subsequently pronounced dead on scene by the Warren County Coroner’s Office.

Police were assisted on scene by Youngsville VFD, Youngsville Police, Dyke’s Towing and the county coroner.

On Sunday, police responded near the intersection of Hickory Lane and Rt. 27 for a two-vehicle accident.

A 1976 Dodge Dart, driven by Charles L. Scott, 72, Pittsfield, was traveling east and failed to recognize stopped vehicles in front of him. Scott attempted to stop, police say, skidding into the westbound lane.

A vehicle, a 2013 Ford F250 SuperCab, in the westbound lane then crashed into the passenger side of Scott’s vehicle.

A passenger in Scott’s vehicle, 80-year-old Marcelyn White, 80, Pittsfield, was pronounced dead at the scene while Scott was flown to Hamot Hospital where he was subsequently pronounced dead.

A 30-year-old Youngsville man and 26-year-old North Warren woman were in the second vehicle and police say they reported no injuries.
