A Sheffield Area High School graduate has received a statewide AMVETS scholarship.

Carter O’Donnell, a 2020 graduate, was awarded a Bernard Gorman Scholarship by the AMVETS Department of Pennsylvania.

Successful applicants must be graduating high school seniors who are the children or grandchildren of AMVETS members or deceased veterans who were AMVETS members.

Scholarship selection is handled by an outside source based on academic achievement, extracurricular involvement, and a written essay.

O’Donnell will attend the State University New York at Fredonia majoring in music industry.

Carter is the son of Jamie and Amy O’Donnell and the grandson of AMVETS Past National Commander Gary Fry. Fry is the founder of AMVETS Post 50 — Sugar Grove.

Fry presented the award to O’Donnell on behalf of the AMVETS Department of Pennsylvania Service Foundation.
