Wolf wants self-quarantine for those who travel to select states

Gov. Tom Wolf is recommending those who travel to states with high numbers of COVID-19 cases to self-quarantine for 14 days when they return to Pennsylvania.

The recommendation was tucked into a news release from the governor’s office Thursday focusing on avoiding large gatherings and wearing masks while celebrating the Fourth of July holiday.

States on the list are Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Louisiana, Mississippi, Nevada, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas and Utah.

Wolf’s suggested quarantine is in contrast to Gov. Andrew Cuomo of New York state, who recently announced a joint travel advisory with New Jersey and Connecticut requiring travelers from states with an infection rate of more than 10 cases per 100,000 people on a seven-day rolling average to quarantine when entering their states. Cuomo has said “random checks” will be performed by inspectors on travelers, and the state will also rely on “the honor system.” Violators may face a judicial order and mandatory quarantine along with fines.
