The Warren County Republican Committee awarded Emory J. Mahan Memorial Scholarships to graduating seniors in the Warren County School District. From left are: Republican Committee Chairperson Kathy Kemp-Jensen, Madison Mohney (Eisenhower High School), Naomi Hahn (Warren Area High School), Meghan Peterson (Warren Area High School), Carter O’Donnell (Sheffield Area High School), State Representative Kathy Rapp, and Scholarship Committee Chairman David White. Each student received a $1,000 scholarship. The scholarship was established in memory of Mahan in 2011 in recognition of his efforts on behalf of the Warren County Republican Committee and the procurement of the headquarters building. The intent of the scholarship is to make seniors more aware of the political process and the need for community involvement. Applicants answer an essay question based on current political events. Since the scholarship’s inception in 2013, the committee has awarded $27,000 to area graduates.
