County jobless claims increase

There are more new unemployment claims in Warren County than a week ago, but the number of continued claims is down.

According to data from the Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry, for the week ending Saturday, May 23, there were 94 new claims in Warren County.

That is a 25% increase over the previous week.

According to the statistics, 24% of the new claims were in manufacturing, 19% in retail trade, and 15% in health care and social assistance.

More new applicants were in the 25 to 34 years old age group with 27.7% of the total. The new applications included 20% in the 35 to 44 age group, only 15% in the 45 to 54 group, and back up to 21% from 55 to 64.

Of the new applicants, 54 were men and 40 were women.

The department reported 1,990 continued claims as of May 23. That total is down more than 100 from the report for the previous week.

The Labor and Industry unemployment dashboard is searchable by date and location and will show data for individual counties or the state.
