City asking citizens to ‘ring bells’ for their ‘hometown heroes’

Warren City Council signed off on a resolution authorizing “Bells Across Pennsylvania Day.”

“At the behest of the Pennsylvania State Mayors’ Association,”

According to the resolution, residents and churches are asked “to ring bells for three minutes commencing at 7 p.m.” on Sunday, May 3, “in honor of hometown heroes within our community, across Pennsylvania, and on the front lines of the battle against COVID-19, and as a sign of our community’s resolve to restore and promote local businesses and civic life.”

“Hopefully everyone will be able to join in,” Mayor Maurice Cashman said.

He asked residents to find a bell or a pan “anything to join in.

“We will get through this together,” he said of the pandemic. The resolution highlights the effects of the virus across the Commonwealth and specifically mentions many of the people — emergency medical personnel, firefighters, police officers, grocery store employees, pharmacy employees and other citizens involved in life-sustaining businesses” that have kept society moving during these unprecedented times.”

Bells have “served as an instrument of expressing communal gratitude, camaraderie and resolve” and is “well-suited for Pennsylvanians sheltering in place to demonstrate their appreciation for their hometown heroes.”

Starting at $3.50/week.
