Man captured in Conewango Creek after police pursuit

A man with an active warrant for absconding from state parole led numerous Warren County law enforcement agents on a pursuit Wednesday into an occupied house and ended with his capture from Conewango Creek.

David W. Jenkins III, 31, address unknown, is charged with felony criminal trespass, flight to avoid apprehension, two counts of disorderly conduct, and five counts of possession of drug paraphernalia.

According to City of Warren Police, officers responded to a call of a fight in progress near Third Avenue and Orr Place.

When police arrived, a man wearing black pants and a dark hooded sweatshirt ran away.

Police pursued the man, identified as Jenkins, who did not comply with orders to stop, according to the affidavit of probable cause.

The man led police an a foot pursuit through the parking lot of a nursing home and through private yards, according to police.

A home owner on Water Street told police that Jenkins entered the house “without permission,” according to the affidavit.

Jenkins “remained inside while being asked to leave,” police said. “The defendant asked to pay the resident money so he could stay there.”

Police said Jenkins left the house and went to a new hiding spot.

“The defendant was taken into custody after being found hiding in the Conewango Creek,” according to the affidavit.

The water temperature Thursday morning of the Allegheny River below Kinzua Dam was 43 degrees.

After his arrest, Jenkins told police he was on state parole and was attempting to avoid apprehension, according to the affidavit.

City of Warren Police were assisted by Conewango Township Police, Youngsville Borough Police, Pennsylvania State Police, and the Warren County Sheriff’s Office including K-9 Dina.

Jenkins was arraigned before District Justice Todd Woodin and taken to Warren County jail after failing to post $100,000 bail.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 9 a.m. Wednesday, April 8.

“The investigation is continuing with additional charges possible to other actors that were involved,” police said.
