Competence, innovation, integrity and teamwork, that’s what it takes.

Three Warren County Career Center students received medals at the DECA State Competition.

The event took place in Hershey from February 19th to the 21st.

During the state competition, the students were subjected to a 100 question multiple choice test and two role play scenarios.

The students were given “real-life” scenarios pertaining to their marketing or business event and had to find a solution to their problem. Once a solution is created they present it to the judges.

Macy Eyler was awarded three medals in the Mini Awards Ceremony and placed 10th overall out of the 40 students in the Automotive Services Marketing category.

Mitch Rossman was awarded one medal in the Mini Awards Ceremony and placed 10th overall out of the 42 students in the Principles of Hospitality and Tourism category.

And, Joshua Smith competed in Business Finance and was awarded two medals in the Mini Awards Ceremony.

The medals the students received in the Mini Awards Ceremony are given for top test scores and role plays.

John Papalia from the Warren County Chamber of Business and Industry (WCCBI) helped the students prepare for the state competition by judging role plays for practice.

“We really appreciate the time and expertise that John gave to our students and help them prepare for the state competition,” said Cathie Cummings, marketing teacher and DECA advisor at the Warren County Career Center.

Eyler, Rossman, and Smith all qualified for the state level in December at the district competition which was held at the University of Pittsburgh – Bradford.

DECA, or Distributive Education Clubs of America, was founded in 1946 and has since impacted the lives of more than 10 million students, educators, school administrators, and business professionals.

Their mission is to prepare emerging leaders and entrepreneurs in marketing, finance, hospitality and management in high schools and colleges around the world.
